A Future, Forgotten II: On Wings of Brass
A Future, Forgotten II: On Wings of Brass
A neo-Victorian Steampunk Live Action Roleplaying event taking place the evening of Saturday, November 17th, at Albert Community Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
It is the eleventh anniversary of the death of beloved Queen Victoria, who reigned over her Empire for over a hundred and seventy five yearsthanks to the marvels of modern technology. Her chosen heir, called by some the "girl queen" and by others the "gear queen", has been on the throne for a mere decade and many fear that under her reign the foundations of Victorian society are crumbling at the dawn of the 21st century.
The assassination of the Earl of Strathcona brought these troubles and uncertainties home in a rush to the mighty metropolis of Strathcona, First City of the New World, founded on the fortunes of airship pirates raiding American airspace and grown into the political and economic center of the great Dominion of Canada. The criminals in the streets and men of fortune prowling the western skies know the winds of change are blowing. Even the clockwork professors in their ivory towers and the rakes sequestered in their ancient and decadent hellfire clubs know that Victoria's shadow can't extend forever. Anarchists hope a better future might be won, even if it must be bought with blood and fire, while the high-born aristocrats know that time is on their side when practical immortality can be bought with title, money, and the willingness to risk replacing one's soul with clockwork steamtech. A new order is emerging, and the stakes have never been higher - in times of unrest, those who can seize the moment can create their own future.
A Future, Forgotten, is not our future, but one we might imagine...and you can help shape it.
Registration Dates and Event Fees
Pre-Registration extends up to a week before the event (ending on November 10th). The event fee is $15. Players who register early will also have a greater chance to shape what character they receive - come the start of November, pretty much all the characters will be defined and not much customization will be possible (though you'll still get some say in which character you get, assuming you don't register very late indeed).
For your convenience, you can pay the registration fee via Paypal:
Alternately, you can e-mail me and arrange some method of getting a cash payment to me.
Event Time and Venue
A Future, Forgotten will be taking place Saturday, November 17th. Doors will open at 6pm for the fine ladies and gentlemen in attendance to change into costume and sign in, with the opening speech taking place at 7pm. Festivities will conclude between 11pm and midnight.
The venue will be the loft of Albert Community Centre in Saskatoon.
Setting and System
More information on the setting of A Future, Forgotten will be made available as the pre-registration date approaches. Neo-Victorian Steampunk sums it up very well - it is the 21st century, but in a world where Queen Victoria reigned for almost two centuries. The calcification of Victorian society under the rule of a nearly immortal monarch has led to a continuance of Victorian fashion and manners, albeit with plenty of interesting quirks and modernizations - the intention is to allow players as much freedom as possible in their costuming and portrayal, so that those who want to enter the game playing a picture perfect Victorian gentlemen can play alongside the blue-haired goggles-wearing airship pirate putting the punk into steampunk. A broad range of classic steampunk archetypes from airship pirates to steampunk professors, haughty aristocrats, firebrand revolutionaries and decadent bohemians will be available.
Do not expect to recieve extensive details on the system in use until quite close to the event, as systems tend to be revised heavily up until the last moment for these events to make sure everything works just right. Do expect that your character will be created for you (you will not have to touch any character creation mechanics, though if you register during the Early Bird Registration you will have some input into your character's strengths and weaknesses), and also expect a simple, basic system designed to be immediately accessible to LARPing newbies without getting in the way too much.
